    HALO 3 Update

Even though many of us have been saying it for months, Bungie finally admits to 4-player co-op in Halo 3.

"It’s time for us to sack up and tell you what’s what regarding online co-op.

So you were probably wondering why we didn’t want to commit to two player co-op online over Xbox Live. We certainly got plenty of mail asking, no, demanding that we make it happen. Of course we were working on it, but we were also working on something better. Not two player co-op. Not three-player co-op, but up to four player co-op. Online. On Xbox Live, or sure, System Link if you prefer.

That is correct – up to four player co-op in Campaign mode on Xbox Live or System Link."

    NCAA Football 08 Roster Updates

I finally got around to doing a tutorial video for anyone who's been trying to figure out how to use Roster Update files for NCAA Football '08. If you find this video useful, or want to be sure other people can easily find this information, please Digg this video.

    Things you'll need:
    1. NCAA Football '08
    2. Xbox 360
    3. Memory Card (64MB / 512MB) or Hard Drive (20Gig / 120Gig)
Xbox 360 Transfer Kit, Xport 360 or XSATA.
    4. Windows XP or Vista PC

The Xbox 360 Transfer kits are extremely hard to find, so I thought I'd provide a link to the only reliable place I know of that's still selling the transfer kits for $9.99.

    HALO on PS3?

This all began running through my head the day I saw the new Transformers movie, so allow me to start there.

While walking out of the theater I began to think about how great it was going to be when Transformers was released on HD DVD. I'd be able to watch it on my 60" HD TV in the comfort of my own home. I'd be able to replay the action scenes at will and watch each Autobot / Decepticon transform frame by frame in 1080p glory..... Then it hit me... I instantly started to panic about which HD format would end up with Transformers.... "Oh crap?! Which studio did that? Paramount & Dreamworks Pictures..." When I arrived home I went straight to the internet... *sigh of relief*  "Cool, Paramount releases movies on both HD DVD and Blu-Ray... I think I'm covered!"

After seeing Transformers, I started thinking about how cool a Voltron movie could be, and how if HALO would ever be filmed it could end up a classic series of movies.... You know, kind of like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars....

Well, back in October of 2006, Universal Studios and FOX pulled out of making the live action HALO movie due to production costs.
"With the recent departure of Univeral and Fox, Microsoft is now shopping around for new partners. According to Variety, Microsoft is focusing their partnering efforts on Warner Bros. and Paramount, although nothing is definite yet.

Other rumors have Microsoft funding the entire movie themselves. Either way it looks like this movie is going to get made one way or another."
        - http://www.halothemovie.org/  (Nov 11th, 2006)
Now, licsencing rights for HALO (the movie) have been picked up by FOX and nobody is sure about the future of this movie.... I'm a bit more concerned about AFTER the movie is made. What happens when Microsoft and Bungie find a studio to make HALO,  it turns out to be an absolute blockbuster, and then it's ready for 'video release'?? Has anyone thought THAT far in advance?

Universal, Paramount, Newline Cinemas & Warner Brothers release their movie on both Blu-Ray and HD DVD... What happens if 20th Century Fox, Disney / Buena Vista, Lionsgate Films, MGM, Sony Pictures, or Weinstein Company are any of the studios that end up with rights to the HALO movie? It would then be released on Blu-Ray only! This would mean that one THE biggest titles Microsoft has exclusively  could be viewed on a PlayStation 3 and NOT on an Xbox 360! Now how messed up would that be?

Now I know that nothing is set in stone, and the majoiry of the information floating around the web regarding the HALO movie is rumor / speculation, but if the HALO movie were to be exclusively released on Blu-Ray I think it would be quite the kick in the shorts for Microsoft and Bungie.

    Power Saves - Nintendo Wii

Well, I finally got the 'OK' from my boss to talk about what I've been working my butt off on..... It's a product for the Nintendo Wii called "PowerSaves".

The Wii Power Saves is PC software and a 512MB SD memory card for $19.99. The SD card comes preloaded with 30+ Power Saves for the Nintendo Wii. So, if you don't have a memory card reader, or don't feel like installing the PC software right away, you can still access a bunch of content right off the bat.

If you're familiar with the Xbox ActionRepaly, you know exactly what I'm talking about when I say "PowerSave". However, if you've never played with the Xbox AR, or have never even heard of it, you're probably saying "WTF is a PowerSave?" Well, it's not the 'pick up where so-and-so left off' game save that you may expect. PowerSaves are unique game saves that have been 'enhanced' to allow gamers to start off with special abilities, extra ammo, health, levels, and some even enable little extras that game developers never expected you to have access to.... Yeah, kind of like the infamous "Hot Coffee" cheat for Grand Theft Auto... but trust me, after all of the ruckus those PS2 codes and the Xbox save caused, I won't be doing anything like that again.

A more appropriate example of a unique PowerSave would be for The Ant Bully. There's no 'programmers cheat' that I know of that will allow you to enable the debug camera mode.... but there's a power save for it. With a press of the 2 button, the camera can be freely moved anywhere in the level, and with a press of the A button your character is instantly transported to that location.... pretty cool, but then again, it's for a not-so-popular game.... ok, how about starting off Super Paper Mario with 999/999 health, 999 coins, 99 strength, and every recipe? What about starting Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition with super health & ammo? Maybe starting off with the best weapons would be a little more fun? Well, I'm workin' on it!

Ok, so what else does the the supplied PC software do? The software iis called MAX Media Manager Pro for Wii.
MAX Media Manager Pro lets you rip CD's, transfer MP3s to an SD card, convert / compress Video files, subscribe to Podcasts, manage your pictures and even swap gamesaves with people from all over the world. Think of these extra features as a 'bonus' to the included PowerSaves. (You can also download more PowerSaves through the software for all of the latest games.)

I know many of you are thinking "I don't want / like to cheat" or that this entire blog entry is a giant ad... First off, if you don't like to cheat, don't. You could always just wait until you finsih the game on your own first then have some fun with cheats afterward. Heck, you might as well get your $40+ dollars of fun out of your games.... and to everyone out there who feels like this entire blog entry is one giant ad.... you're pretty much right. I'm really excited about the Wii PowerSaves, and I intend to do everything I can to make this product just as successful, if not, more successful than the Xbox Action Replay. (I loved that product, and I really enjoyed supporting it.) Besides, I spent 32+ hours straight at the office trying to make sure I could get plenty of PowerSaves completed before it went into production.... Honestly, I really dig what I do, and appreciate everyone who's supported our 'cheat devices' in the past.

You'll be able to find Wii PowerSaves at your local EB Games / GameStop, BestBuy, Target, etc..
    Availability: 7/27/07
    Price: $19.99

Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s

I now consider Guitar Hero one of my favorite games of all time.... I'm still not that good at it, but it's so much damn fun that I really don't care. I'd even go so far as to say that I enjoy it as much as, if not more, than Street Fighter. (Anyone who knows me in the "real world" will tell you that a statement like that is crazy talk.)

Right now, Guitar Hero fans are excitedly anticipating the release of Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s. The latest installment of GH is heading to PlayStation 2's everywhere on the 24th of this month... that doesn't do me much good since I haven't really played my PlayStation 2 since November 15th, 2001. [NOTE: 10/15/01 is when the Xbox was 1st released.] Of course, I'll have to play it at work on the PS2 for an hour or so to make codes, but I doubt I'll play it at all after that. Anyway, I don't understand why this game is a "PlayStation 2 Exclusive"; it's rediculous.

If Guitar Hero II never released on Xbox 360, I NEVER would have had the pleasure of becoming an addict. I also never would have forced everyone that has ever come to my house to play it... Every person that has come over and picked up the guitar has left my house a Guitar Hero II junkie, and so far, every one of them has purchased a copy of the game for their Xbox 360 and an extra controller. I found out recently that several of those people have introduced several others to the game and they've all become addicts as well. One friend of mine, Tom, doesn't even own an Xbox 360... he has a PlayStation 2.. After I got my buddy Wayne hooked on the game, he purchased it and made Tom play it at his place. Tom was immediately hooked and then he went out and picked up both Guitar Hero I & II for his PS2!!!

So what's the moral of this story? Console exclusivity isn't the best idea for developers if they want to make good games seriously profitable.

Will Xbox 360 owners be able to rock the 80's any time soon? Is Microsoft going to make us shell out 500 M$ points for every pack of 3 songs on Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80's, or will we be able to purchase the full game some time by the end of thsi year? My original prediction was that this would end up being a downlaodable "expansion pack", but after seeing the list of songs I realized how expensive that would be.... oh wait... overpriced 'add-on content' that's only accessible via the console you originally purchased it on is what the marketplace is all about... (Sorry, I almost forgot.)

Here's some of the songs that have been confirmed to be on Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's:
    • Caught in a Mosh (as made famous by Anthrax)
    • Balls to the Wall (as made famous by Accept)
    • Electric Eye (performed by Judas Priest)
    • Los Angeles (as made famous by X)
    • Police Truck (as made famous by Dead Kennedys)
    • We Got the Beat (as made famous by The Go Go's)
    • (I Think I'm) Turning Japanese (as made famous by Vapors)
    • Seventeen (as made famous by Winger)
    • Because, it's Midnite (performed by Limozeen)
    • Hold On Loosely (as made famous by .38 Special)
    • No One Like You (as made famous by Scorpions)
    • Only a Lad (as made famous by Oingo Boingo)
    • Ballroom Blitz (as made famous by Krokus)
    • The Warrior (performed by Scandal)
    • What I Like About You (as made famous by The Romantics)
    • Wrath Child (as made famous by Iron Maiden)
    • I Wanna Rock (performed by Twisted Sister)
    • I Ran (performed by Flock of Seagulls)
    • Round and Round (as made famous by Ratt)
    • Metal Health (as made famous by Quiet Riot)
    • Holy Diver (as made famous by Dio)
    • Heat Of The Moment (as made famous by Asia)
    • Radar Love (as made famous by White Lion)
    • 18 and Life (as made famous by Skid Row)
    • Bathroom Wall (as made famous by Faster Pussycat)
    • Lonely is the Night (as made famous by Billy Squier)
    • Nothing But a Good Time (as made famous by Poison)
    • Play With Me (as made famous by Extreme)
    • Shaken (as made famous by Eddie Money)
    • Synchronicity II (as made famous by The Police)

Oh yeah, 1 more thing..... I plan on throwing a "Guitar Hero party" very soon & I need some ideas. I'm thinking about having plenty of 'adult beverages', a few snacks, Guitar Hero II on the big screen, another copy hooked up on the PC monitor with headphones for people to get a little practice in, a PS2 hooked up outside on our patio with Guitar Hero 1, and prizes for the best Guitar Hero II players.

Any ideas / suggestions are welcome! (Thanks)

"Man-Up Nancy!" - Microsoft extends the 360 warranty!

Today Microsoft says "our bad" and extends the Xbox360 warranty to THREE YEARS!!! Check out this open letter from Peter Moore to the Xbox community. (I've highlighted the important parts.)

    Open Letter From Peter Moore

    To our Xbox Community:

You’ve spoken, and we’ve heard you. Good service and good customer experience are areas of the business that we care deeply about. And frankly, we’ve not been doing a good enough job.

Some of you have expressed frustration with the customer experiences you have had with Xbox 360; frustration with having to return your console for service after receiving the general hardware error message on the console.

The majority of customers who own Xbox 360 consoles have had a terrific experience from their first day, and continue to, day in and day out. But when anyone questions the reliability of our product, or our commitment to our customers, it’s something I take very seriously.

We have been following this issue closely, and with on-going testing have identified several factors that can cause a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing lights on the console. To address this issue, and as part of our ongoing work, we have already made certain improvements to the console.

We are also implementing some important policy changes intended to keep you in the game, worry-free.

As of today, all Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty program to address specifically the general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and previously-sold consoles. While we will still have a general one year console warranty (two years in some countries), we are announcing today a three-year warranty that covers any console that displays a three flashing red lights error message. If a customer has an issue indicated by the tree flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of charge-including shipping-for three years from the console’s purchase date. We will also retroactively reimburse any of you who paid for repairs related to problems indicated by this error message in the past. In doing so, Microsoft stands behind its products and takes responsibility to ensure that every Xbox 360 console owner continues to have a fantastic gaming experience.

If we have let any of you down in the experience you have had with your Xbox 360, we sincerely apologize. We are taking responsibility and are making these changes to ensure that every Xbox 360 owner continues to have a great experience.

This will take a few days to roll out globally, and I appreciate your continued patience as we launch this program. I’ve posted an FAQ that should address some additional questions, and we’ll update it over the next few days.

I want to thank you, on behalf of all of us at Microsoft, for your loyalty.

    (Source: Xbox.com)

Now that's awesome news! They basically said; "Oops, our bad... we're sorry and we'll fix it!" I find this move to not only be a nice way for Micro$oft to show they care about their customers and support the Xbox 360 100%, but it's also a nice subtle "middle finger" waving at SONY! (SONY never seems to admit when a problem is their fault; they seem to let problems fall back on the consumer, or blame 3rd party accessories.) Now, let's do something about the price of downloadable content and the whole 'lock the content to the original Xbox 360' crap!

    P.S.

Here's the URL to the "Warranty FAQ" Mr. Moore spoke of:

    Transformers The Movie

I went to the theater last night with a bunch of friends to watch the Autobots wage their battle to desroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. (sorry, I couldn't resist.) It was a GREAT movie!!

When I say "it was a great movie", I mean that it was a great movie... not just a great movie for Transformers fan-boys (and girls), people who grew up watching the Transformers cartoons, or a great movie for sci-fi buffs.... It's a great movie for anyone who enjoys sci-fi, comedy, Transformers, action movies, etc. If you haven't seen it yet, go see it! If you have seen it, go see it again. I told my wife that she HAS to see it with me when I go back!

It's just too bad that Transformers The Game totally sucks ass!
Just remember this: Avoid the game, go see the movie!

    Guess Who's Back...

Hello all! I'm sorry that I haven't been around lately; I've been extremely busy. Man, so much has been happening, so much has been keeping me from my MSN Space... I have absolutely no clue where to start. Uhhhh.... Hmm.... let's see now.... OK! I've got it, Forza Motorsport 2... That's a great place to begin.

    Forza Motorsport 2:
I picked this one up the moment it was released, but I find myself spending more time trying to learn how to customize cars, create 'custom paint jobs' , and trying to earn in-game money in the online auctions FAR more than actually driving. I'm addicted, what can I say? I thought I was doing a pretty good job when I made my first few custom cars..... until I saw the stunning creations that some people had up for sale online. (Leave it to the internet to show someone just how untalented they are.)

My first set of cusom cars......

I even spent a few hours 'painting' a car for a local radio show...

Some cars that proved that I have no talent....

Let's see.... What else has been keeping me away from posting?!?! Ahh yes, being out of the country.

    Working from the UK offices:

Last week I had the opportunity to spend some time in the Datel UK office. The 8 hour flight combined with no sleep and a +5 hour time zone change made my first day or so rather difficult. Once I straightened out my internal clock, and got 12 hours of sleep, it was great!
I always enjoy getting the opportunity to visit my UK co-workers. I love chatting with the engineers about [inside information], and seeing how everyone deals with the high pressure / fast approaching deadlines.... The stressful workday makes a pint of Stella or Guinness at the pub taste extra refreshing!

When not at the pub or in the office, I found myself watching an unusual amount of English television. I'm not quite sure why, but I accidentally turned on channel 4 one evening and found myself horrifically fascinated by the UK version of Big Brother. Instead of paying a monthly fee to view the live feeds on a website, folks in the UK just turn on channel 4 and watch the ‘uncensored’ antics of the housemates.  (To anyone in the UK right now reading this; I, like many of you, cannot stand those ditzy little twins!)

If I wasn’t watching Big Brother, I was always able to find something just as odd to watch… The best show I had the privilege of watching was called “Keith Allen is Going to Hell”. It was an uncensored “documentary” about religion… Well, it was more like a show about an atheist comedian who flew from the UK to Topeka Kansas to argue with the family, friends, and congregation of Fred Phelps. (If you don’t know who Fred Phelps is, you’re probably better off.)

What else have I been up to? Ahh yes... I've been busting my butt trying to finish up content for a new product that we're about to launch for the Nintendo Wii... When I say 'busting my butt' I really do mean that. I spent 32 hours STRAIGHT at the office last Thursday / Friday just trying to make the deadline. I'll explain what it is, what it does, as well as post a video of the product in action very soon.... that's all for now. It's time to get some sleep, then it's back to the office bright and early for product testing!

Tomorrow night I'll be relaxing in my local movie theater watching Transformers.... If it's a good movie, I'll probably see it again on Tuesday at the iMax theater in Tampa!
